about

‘But Then Came Snow’ is Jim’s final release of 2022.
Inspired in part by the ghost stories of M.R James and the tales of The Brothers Grimm, the song is set in the isolated wilds of a foreboding winter and tells of a woman whose mind has been forsaken. She pleads with her husband to ‘not let her go’ but this statement isn’t about him leaving her, it’s a cry for help to alleviate the inner turmoil of her declining health. The production is sparse and it’s atmosphere dark and brooding, perfect for a cold and eerie December evening sat by a fire.

lyrics

In the winter
Come light a fire
and I'll tell you the tale

Of a river
A black flowing water
And a darkness in the hills

You can hear her
Pleading, crying, begging with him
Oh my darling don't you let me go...
But then came snow

Unforgiven
More than long forgotten
In a place there, beyond the pines

For his transgression
He never paid no restitution
So there was nothing that could save her mind

You can hear her
Pleading, crying, begging with him
Oh my darling don't you let me go...
But then came snow

In a clearing
On a late November morning
The wind blows
Across the ground

If you listen
Her shadows calling
Because her spirit
Still walks through these lands
